Learn About Us
Redeemer is …
About the Redeemer: Our salvation is not the ABC’s of our life, but rather the A-Z of our life. We want to live each day in the reality of God’s grace demonstrated on the cross. We want to find God’s peace and freedom by worshipping our Redeemer every day.
About his redemption: We believe that God intends for many more from our area to experience his amazing redemption — and we want to be part of his work! Therefore, our goal organizationally and organically is to share God’s redemption with others.
Pastor Trey has been a pastor for our church since January of 2014.
He loves Jesus Christ and has a passion to teach others about Christ in a dynamic, interesting way. Trey and his wife love having people over to their house for good food and fun. He has an undergraduate degree in Biblical studies and a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership.
He enjoys lightweight hiking, playing basketball, board games, and watching Boston Celtics basketball.
He lives with his wife, 3 kids, and dog in Norwalk.
He assists pastor Trey in the administrative and organizational responsibilities of the church, as well as leading worship for Sunday mornings and helping in Redeemer’s Teen ministries.
He enjoys hiking, reading good literature, fine teas, and playing the guitar.
He also lives in Norwalk.
In April 2019, Tim and family moved from serving in the children’s ministry at Saylorville Church to join Redeemer Norwalk with a passion to share the love of Jesus. Tim recently earned his biblical counseling certification through ACBC and has a Master of Divinity from Faith Baptist Theological Seminary.
Tim is here to open the Word with anyone because he believes God can not only save anyone, but also provide help and grace in their time of need.
Tim also brings keto pizza to men’s pizza night, and has managed to not hurl every time Pastor Trey wears his Celtics shirt. He truly is a man of many graces.
First Baptist Church had its first worship service in Norwalk, Iowa in 1963. In 1964 they built their brick building on the corner of Highway 28 and Mafred Drive. The church has many other stories from 1964 to 2014 where lives were touched with the gospel of Christ.
However, we began to recognize in the latter years that we were not as impactful to our community as we wanted to be.
Recognizing and valuing the church’s history, yet still seeking to increase our impact, we began to change our identity and refocus our mission. We have focused more on Jesus Christ and his gospel, invested large portions of our budget into helping and impacting our community, updated our building to improve its appearance and usefulness, changed our ministry times to coincide with Norwalk families’ schedule, updated our music, added helpful ministries, and much more.
These changes culminated in October of 2016, when we – then known as First Baptist Church – renamed ourselves to reflect a distinct rebirth in the identity and mission of the church. We selected the name “Redeemer” because it reflects who we are about (Jesus), and what we are about (his mission of redemption).
Redeemer continues to invest large portions of our time, energy, and money into helping the community of Norwalk, in order to share the hope of the gospel.
We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original manuscripts and the sufficient and final authority for all matters of faith, practice, and life.
THE TRUE GOD
We believe the one true and living God is one in essence, possessing three, personal distinctions: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary; that he paid the penalty for our sins on the cross and applied the payment when he rose from the dead three days later.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit and that he indwells and enables the Christian to live a godly life.
We believe in a six literal-day creation by God’s Word as outlined in Genesis 1.
We believe that all human beings, except Jesus Christ, are totally depraved and guilty before God as a result of the fall of Adam. We commit acts of sin because we are sinners by nature.
We believe that the Triune God saves sinners by grace alone through faith in Christ’s substitutionary atonement alone.
We believe that the universal Church is the body of Christ, comprised of all true believers from Pentecost until the Rapture. Jesus Christ is the sole head of the Church.
We believe that the local church is an assembly of immersed believers, led by pastors and served by deacons.
We believe that there are two church ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
We believe that there will be a rapture, tribulation period, kingdom, then eternity.
We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church. Life begins at conception and children are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.
